Basic Life Support

Overview

A session designed for students to refresh and update their basic life support skills for adult, child and baby to current Resuscitation Council (UK) protocols. The use of an AED is also included. This course is ideal for NHS staff annual update training.

Aims

To enable candidates to deliver safe, prompt and effective basic life support with an AED to an adult, child or baby casualty following an injury or illness to current Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines.

By the end of this session the student will be able to:

  • Perform recovery position and CPR on adults, chilren and babies
  • Use an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator)
  • Demonstrate choking procedures on adults, children and babies
Target audience

Any individuals who require Basic Life Support and AED adult, child & baby refresher training or wish to gain knowledge of emergency procedures.

Certification
A 1-year Certificate of Competence is awarded upon successful completion.

Introduction, registration and welcome
Assessment of a casualty
Examination of an unconscious casualty
Recovery position adult, child and baby
Basic Life Support (CPR) techniques for adult, child and baby
Use of an AED
Assessment and treatment for choking adult, child and baby
Optional extra for assessment and treatment of anaphylaxis in adult, child and baby

Availability can be discussed to suit your organisations needs.

Suggested Progression

All successful attendees must complete a Basic Life Support couse at the end of their one-year certification.
