To enable candidates to get help & give adequate and efficient paediatric First Aid to a casualty in their care following an injury or illness using material to hand and first aid equipment

Objectives Objectives

On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to:

  • understand the role of the paediatric first aider including reference to the use of available equipment and the need for recording incidents and actions;
  • understand the importance of basic hygiene in first-aid procedures;
  • assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
  • administer first aid to a baby or child who is unconscious and/or in seizure;
  • administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation to a baby or child ;
  • administer first aid to a baby or child who is wounded or bleeding and/or in shock;
  • administer first aid to a baby or child who is choking;
  • provide appropriate first aid to a baby or child for minor injuries.

 

Syllabus Syllabus

Introduction, registration welcome and domestics

  • Assessment of an emergency situation and prioritisaton of what action to take;

  • Unconsciousness including the Recovery Postion;

  • CPR for baby or child;

  • Seizures;

  • Choking;

  • Slight & Severe bleeding;

  • Medical shock (from severe blood loss).

Certificate:

A 3 year Certificate of Competence will be awarded on successful completion of the course and assessment.

  • All courses can accommodate larger numbers of students if required. Please contact us for details
  • Our courses all use student centred methods such as skill demonstrations & practice, groupwork, question & answer sessions & case studies. We  augment the above strategies with tutorials & demonstrations to give a well balanced interactive learning experience for all students.
  • Formative Assessment will be ongoing throughout the course by the trainer. On our FAW courses there is a final assessment on the last day conducted by independent assessors.
